Exhibit A: This book.First she lures you into it with a handful of hilariously funny chapters about her hippie-style homeschooled childhood and her experiences as an underaged violin/math college geek. Then she insidiously cranks up the heat a little to her not entirely delightful years as template crazy-cat lady for television, accompanied by a nonethelesssomekindacute little fullgrown WoW addiction, though still writing funny enough to smother any suspicious thoughts...And just when you ask yourself, what harmless dorky thing might come next - bam! She has tackled you at the 10 yards line, holding you in the half-nelson of her catchy writing style, while suddenly opening up about the dark side of being an entertainment professional, e.g. the sexist, abusive wiener-fest that is hollywood in general. About all the crippling selfdoubt, social isolation and ruthless self-exploitation for the sake of a self-controlled career and the massive clinical depression she finally ended up with as a reward... not to mention the mysoginistic delights of an out-of-control "Gamer-Gate"-community showering her with the wrong kind of love, up to a point, where she stopped feeling safe in her own home... sounds awful? Ich kannte Felicia Day aus Supernatural und Eureka, bevor ich das Buch gekauft habe. Außerdem hatte ich das ein oder andere Video auf youtube gesehen, aber wirklich viel wusste ich nicht über sie. Ich fand sie immer sehr sympathisch und der Titel des Buches hat mich angesprochen, also dachte ich es wäre mal einen Versuch wert.Ich wurde definitiv nicht enttäuscht.Es ist unglaublich, was Felicia alles zu erzählen hat. Ihre Lebensgeschichte bisher ist wirklich interessant und so gut und einzigartig geschrieben, dass man die ganze Zeit über das Gefühl haben kann, bei ihr zu sitzen und ihr zuzuhören.Ich finde es beeindruckend, wie ehrlich sie mit ihren psychischen Problemen und kleinen Ticks umgeht, in denen sich viele vermutlich irgendwie wiederfinden können. Es ist erfrischend wie sie an die Thematiken herangeht. Mit der passenden Menge Humor, sodass es nicht zu ernst ist, aber ohne es dabei ins Lächerliche zu ziehen oder wie einen Scherz wirken zu lassen.Felicia zeigt mit diesem Buch auch eine sehr verletzliche Seite, indem sie vieles über sich offen legt und ich glaube, dass sehr vieles von dem was sie schreibt für viele ihrer Leser sehr inspirierend sein kann. Es zeigt, dass man niemals aufgeben sollte, für etwas zu kämpfen und dass manchmal kleine Ticks einen Menschen erst wirklich liebenswert machen.Zusätzlich gibt es immer kleine passende Fotos dazu, die Felicia zum Teil aus ihrer Kindheit ausgegraben hat. Schade ist nur, dass sie nicht in Farbe sind, aber da sie immer passend zu den Textstellen im Buch sein sollten, ist das durchaus verständlich.Ich konnte das Buch kaum zur Seite legen und außerdem hat es mich dazu gebracht, mit "the Guild" anzufangen, was mir auch sehr gut gefällt.

Of course I bought this book because I think Felica is one of the funniest persons I know. I even had the pleasure to meet her in person at a convention and I can tell she is indeed the nicest girl. Her writing in this Memoir is always straight to the heart and it feels as if Felicia would be right next to you telling her story. There are a lot of funny lines but there is also a very serious part in her book.It might sound absurd but that made me like her even more. She is also a very vulnerable person and when she writes about bad comment trolls and how they got to her she made me think "Yup... that is what it's like. You always keep telling yourself they should not get to you with their bad comments, but they do." We all have been there. Be it in class or on the internet. Felicia has a really good sense of showing us both sides of the internet. As a positve side effect she is encouraging you as a reader to never give up hope and believe in yourself.You also never get the impression that there is an actress writing a book, it's more like the girl next door is talking to you. I often felt a connection to the things that she wrote and I even got a lil bit scared about the GamerGate thing which I hadn't heard of before. So I can say this book contains several genres (in a good way): Comedy, Drama, Psychothriller / Horror and of course biography.I think I could never write as funny and to the point as Felicia does, so I won't even try.Thanks for giving us such a private insight into your life, Felica (no that should not sound creepy.). You Rock!
